Office telephone activation has changed. Microsoft states that, beginning December 3, 2025, its traditional automated telephone process for perpetual products moved online to the Microsoft Product Activation Portal. Office may still show an installation ID or an option labeled telephone activation, but the current workflow can continue through Microsoft’s secure portal.

Before Activating Office 2019

  • Confirm that the installed Office edition matches the license, such as Home & Student, Home & Business, or Professional Plus.
  • Remove trial or conflicting Office installations before activating the licensed edition.
  • Keep the product key, installation ID shown by Office, and your A2Keys order number available.
  • Do not submit product keys or installation IDs to unofficial confirmation-ID websites.

1. Try Online Activation

Open Word, Excel, or another Office application. Go to File > Account, then choose Activate Product or Change Product Key when shown. Enter the 25-character key and follow the on-screen instructions. Office normally tries online activation first.

2. Open the Telephone or Offline Activation Screen

If online activation fails and Office offers telephone activation, select your country or region and continue until Office displays the installation ID. Button names can differ by Office edition and update level, so use the labels shown by your installed copy rather than relying on a fixed phone-menu sequence.

3. Continue in Microsoft’s Product Activation Portal

  1. Open the official Microsoft Product Activation Portal.
  2. Complete the CAPTCHA and sign in with a supported personal, work, or school Microsoft account.
  3. Select Activate a Microsoft Product.
  4. Choose the applicable product and enter the installation information exactly as Office displays it.
  5. Follow Microsoft’s instructions and enter any confirmation information back into Office.

Only Microsoft can validate an installation ID and issue activation confirmation information. A2Keys can help with an eligible order or product-key error, but it cannot override Microsoft’s activation decision.

4. Verify Office Activation

Return to File > Account. Under Product Information, confirm that Office reports Product Activated. Restart the Office application if the status does not refresh immediately.

If Office Still Will Not Activate

  • Check that the installed Office edition and product key match.
  • Check whether the license is already assigned to another computer or whether a hardware change triggered reactivation.
  • Use the support option offered by Microsoft’s Product Activation Portal.
  • Contact A2Keys support with your order number and the exact error message. Do not send the full product key in ordinary email.
