Windows phone activation now commonly continues through Microsoft’s online Product Activation Portal. Microsoft states that, beginning December 3, 2025, its traditional telephone activation automation moved online. The Windows activation wizard may still display an installation ID and regional instructions, but the current completion method can direct you to Microsoft’s portal.

Before You Start

  • Confirm that the installed Windows edition matches the license, such as Home or Pro.
  • Install pending Windows updates and restart the PC.
  • Keep the 25-character product key and your A2Keys order number available.
  • Never share a product key or installation ID on a public website or forum.

1. Try Standard Online Activation First

For Windows 11, open Settings > System > Activation. For Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Activation. Select Change product key, enter the key, and follow the on-screen instructions. Windows normally attempts online activation first.

2. Open the Windows Activation Wizard

If online activation fails and Windows offers telephone or offline activation, press Win + R, enter slui 4, and select OK. Choose your country or the nearest available location. The wizard may display an installation ID and the current Microsoft activation route for your region.

3. Use Microsoft’s Product Activation Portal

  1. Open the official Microsoft Product Activation Portal.
  2. Complete the CAPTCHA and sign in with a supported personal, work, or school Microsoft account.
  3. Select Activate a Microsoft Product.
  4. Enter the installation information exactly as it appears in the Windows activation wizard.
  5. Follow Microsoft’s instructions to receive and enter any confirmation information.

Microsoft says portal sign-in validates access to the secure activation workflow; it does not associate the Microsoft account with the product license.

4. Verify That Windows Is Activated

Return to the Activation page in Settings. Confirm that the activation status says Windows is activated. If possible, link the digital license to your Microsoft account so the Activation troubleshooter can help after an eligible hardware change.

If Activation Still Fails

  • Confirm the Windows edition matches the purchased license.
  • Record the exact error code shown in Settings.
  • Use Microsoft’s Activation troubleshooter or the support option provided by the Product Activation Portal.
  • For an A2Keys order issue, contact A2Keys support with the order number and error code. Do not send the full product key in ordinary email.
